Is Online File Recovery Safe? — Security & Privacy Guide

One of the most common questions we get is: "Is it safe to upload my protected files to an online service?" The short answer is yes, and here is why.

How Our Server Handles Your Files

Technically, our file recovery process works like this:

  1. Your file is uploaded via HTTPS encryption (TLS 1.3)
  2. It is temporarily stored in a secure, isolated temp directory on our server: /tmp/file-recovery/
  3. The server reads the file in memory, removes the password protection
  4. The unlocked version is returned to you as a one-time download link
  5. Both the original and the unlocked file are permanently deleted within 1 hour by an automated cleanup process
  6. We never store, log, or retain your file content or passwords

Why We Don't Store Files

Storing protected files would be a security risk and a liability. Our server is designed to be a processing-only pipeline. The file enters, gets processed, and leaves. Nothing stays. Even our /tmp/ directory is wiped regularly and we manually flush it after each recovery session.
